Social League
Hello Squashers!
Firstly thanks a lot for the overwhelming interest, this year is going to be biggest (40 Players – 10 Groups!) and best Social League yet! The Social League is fun and flexible if we follow the simple guidelines below.
How it works:
Matches are played on Tuesdays (apart from the first and last matches of the league, which will be on a Friday) but if you can’t make it, you can rearrange your match with your opponent at a time that suits you both. I’ve attached the contact details of everyone playing and Danie’s been thinking up some horrific fines for the no-showers, be warned!
The only other requirement is that you finish all your games before the end of the round. Contact the league conveners if you have any queries.
Cost
N$ 100, payable to the league convenors or any other trustworthy looking person. In return for your hard-earned moolah, we’ll be hosting a braai on Friday night to kick-start everything, and then again at the prize-giving function when the social league concludes. Talking about prizeging – there’s going to be some very cool prizes!
Playing times
- The courts will be block booked every Tuesday evening for league from 5.15pm
- Friday night’s matches will run according to the attached timetable (times 99% non-negotiable – sorry!). Thereafter matches will run on a first come, first play basis.
- If both courts are being used when you arrive, put your names on the whiteboard provided
- You can only put your names on the board when both players are present so arrange with your opponent what time you plan to arrive at the courts to avoid waiting too long
- If you can’t play your match on the Tuesday contact your opponent and arrange a time between yourselves and let a league convenor know that you have re-scheduled (a simple SMS will suffice).
Matches
- Players are sorted into groups of 4
- Matches will be played in a Round-Robin format against the other members of your group
- Matches are scheduled each week, see the notice board for details
- After each round the points are tallied. Group winners move into the group above replacing the player with the least points (exceptions for top and bottom group and uneven numbers)
- The league will be continuous for 3 rounds
Scoring
- Matches will be best of five games using PAR (Point-a-Rally)
- Enter your scores on the round robin matrix on the notice board. I’ve attached a sample Round-Robin matrix, if you’re still unsure on how to enter the score buy me a beer and I’ll be happy to help!
- You get 1 point per game so every game counts
- Players coming off the court must score the next match (Score sheets will be available at the bar).
- When you’re done scoring please give the score sheet to any committee member present.
- In the event of a tie a playoff will be scheduled during the break
- Results will go be used to calculate ladder standings
Match Rules
- 4 Minute warm-up before matches (2 minutes per side)
- Officially you may only hit the ball 3 times to yourself
- There will be a rest period of no more than 90 seconds between sets
