SFC Squash Club lures Namibia’s best
History will begin at the SFC Squash Club on Friday 17 October, 2008 at 5.15pm when the country’s top players compete in the same tournament for the first time. Ever.
Just reading the line-up offers a tingling glimpse of the excitement that the SFC Squash Club Championships will produce. And the best part is there can be only one winner.
Frik Orban
Former professional and erstwhile world number 67: the trickster
David Rowett
Damaraland-toughened Camel Man and a prodigal talent: the soul-destroyer
Ian Rowett
Namibia’s official no. 1 and former Zimbabwe champion: the fighter
Jacques Steenkamp
Namibia no. 4 and (unofficially) the most improved player of the year: the speedster
Isabell Schnoor
Namibia’s top woman player and current Isle of Man champion: the attacker
Hot on their heels are several top-20 players, including Luke Allen, Warren Deysel, Conrad Wagner and Clinton Dewing, each capable of producing an upset on any day.
Not all about sweat, tears and arguments with the ref, the SFC Squash Club Champs will be supported by a string of enthusiastic socialites who are growing in number and improving in ability every day.
Saturday evening will see a quiet, relaxing and informal braai get-together and the finals on Sunday from 10am will be the stirring climax topped by a prize-giving ceremony with a twist.
The draw will be posted at the courts and on the website on Thursday evening; play starts on Friday evening.
