Namibian Open: an Extravaganza of Squash
With the exhilarating final between two world-ranked players (ranked 1 and 2 in SA), the Namibian Open drew to a sensational climax last weekend. Clinton Leeuw beat his senior compatriot, Rodney Durbach, in a gruelling 90-minute five-game marathon. Our bums got sore from sitting.

Swakop’s own Isabell had a fabulous match against SA’s Zoe (or Joey if you prefer) Smith but couldn’t match her length and consistency going down 3-1 in the women’s final. Jacques took the men’s A Section plateand Clinton took the men’s B Section plate despite a wobbly ankle on Friday that threatened his chances; Andree took the Women’s Section plate runner-up.

Other notable matches:
Andree v. Arlene - Andree won 12 - 10 in the fifth.
Flicky v. Connie - Flicky fought back from 2-0 down and would have played a sixth game if the ref didn’t stop her
Ian v. Henry - The 3rd/4th position play-off is always a stiff-legged, head-thronging affair and this was no exception; apparently Henry was leading 2-0 and 10-7.
Jacques v. Mwale - Those young Zambians sure are fit and Jacques had an excellent five-game match that he won through gritted teeth and hard-earned experience.

A great turnout from the Swakop supporters club made our presence felt all the more and those Walvis Bayers and Windy Cornerers are now k*king themselves for the Club Champs in November.

Well done to everybody involved you did the SFC proud.

And onwards to the next big event…
