July is going to be a busy month
Social League.
This starts on 1 July and we still have space for a few more players to sign up. Hurry though because we can only accommodate a maximum of 20 players and you don’t want to be reserve now do you. The format is going to be fun, for those new to the concept, here’s an outline:
First, we make the teams:
» We take the list of entrants and rank them in order of ability
» Then we take the top four players and put them as the number 1 players in each of the teams A, B, C and D
» Then we take the next four players and put them as the number 2 players in teams A, B, C and D
» And so on until we have four teams of approximately equal strength
» That means YOU PLAY AGAINST PEOPLE OF SIMILAR SKILL
Then we play the squash:
» On the first night, team A plays team B and team C plays team D
» The next week team A plays team C and team B plays team D
» And so until all teams have played each other twice i.e. 6 weeks
» The winning team is the one that has accumulated the most points
Each week a different team will be “hosts” and each team will have a captain whose job it is to ensure all players are available and find reserves if any of their team members can’t play.
The cost is $40 per person, which goes towards lights and prizes.
The league night will be Tuesdays from 5.30pm onwards on BOTH courts starting 1 July.
New Members.
The SFC Squash Club would like to welcome all new members to the club - we’d list you all by name but that would take too long. I’d say that joining is the best thing you’ve done for yourselves all year; the second best thing you can do is to join the Social League where you’ll play other hackers and maybe enjoy a nice beer or two afterwards. And if you don’t play in the social league you can always come and watch and remember, Fridays are always social nights.
T-Shirts.
Thanks for your votes, the clear winner was the black Tee with Ascent of Man strip on it. Now you need to tell us what size and how many you want. Yep, that means another sheet at the courts.
Carnival.
There are still spaces available if you want to do your civic duty behind the bar. Put your name and available times on the sheet provided at the SFC Main Bar notice board.
Other stuff.
We are trying out an organic telephone booking system with Nickanor and he’s proving keen and able. This is a good thing.
With the increased activity at the courts, peak times are now full on most nights so we’re going to adjust the start times to get another convenient session in. The available slots will soon be: 4:30 - 5:15 - 6:00 - 6:45 - 7:30.
While we’ve seen a marked improvement in the shower situation, we’re far from done. Work on this will continue until our high standards are achieved.
